SF Parade
Okay, so I've talked to most of you about the parade, but here's some of the more formal information...
Directions:
Take I-15 to Spanish Fork Main Street. Head south to 300 South (Canyon Road) and turn left (east). Follow it to 1150 East and turn left (northeast). Follow to 180 South and turn left (west). Turn left (south) into the church parking lot at about 970 East.
This is Friday morning, by the way (July 24). You MUST be there at 8 a.m. or we will leave without you. It goes really quickly.. we won't be out there more than a couple of hours, and there will be donuts and water! Wear sunscreen :) And please wear either a red, white or blue shirt.. very patriotic!
I know this is taking a couple of hours out of your Friday morning, but students, this is where you will be handing out fliers for our BIG First Annual ALA Fun Run.. this is one of our two big fundraisers and the more people that come, the better. This will be great publicity, so please be there!
Next week, after the parade excitement is over, we will start doing more in-depth planning of the Fun Run, including you guys handing out fliers and selling pre-registration. (As incentive, the runner who sells the most pre-registration will receive a wonderful prize.. to be determined later) :) Thanks so much, guys! Keep running!

Running Shoe Tips and REMINGDERS
1.) Go to a store like MVP Sports in Spanish Fork or Runners Corner in Provo and get fitted for running shoes. Once you know what shoes are comfortable go online and check prices at shoebuy.com, endless.com or zappos.com. overstock.com also has some great deals if you already know what you are looking for.
2.) It is also rumored that Sam's Club is carrying some New Balances (great running shoes) for $35.
3.) Finally, often times stores like Big 5 and Sports Authority to have good deals and sales.
NEXT
Don't forget that tomorrow you money is due for joining Cross Country. It is important that you pay in a timely manner so we can count on getting you a uniform and paying your bus fees for the season. If you need more time or payment options talk to me about it.
FINALLY
Tomorrow is our 5 miler followed by a Pancake Breakfast! It is going to be awesome. I can't wait to see you all there.

Notes From Our First Meeting
Cross Country Information Meeting
1.) The Cross Country class will meet during 0 period of the first term of the 2009-2010 school year. The majority of practices will be in the morning, although 2 times a week we will practice after school in addition to meets which are always after school.
2.) Practices will be held during the summer in order to train for the season. You will receive a schedule via email by the beginning of June.
3.) Practices will include tempo, interval and long runs in addition core strengthening exercises such as weights and plyometrics. Races will be about 1x a week and the course is 3.11 miles long.
4.) What you will need: Cross Country requires relatively little equipment. The most important item to have will be a good pair of running shoes. You can plan on spending any where from $50-100 for a pair of shoes. Brands such as Nike, Adidas, Mizuno, New Balance, Asics, and others all specialize in great running shoes. You want your running shoes generally to be ½ size bigger than your normal size as your feet tend to swell while you run. The rest of your attire should be comfortable exercise clothes. I recommend shorts and T-shirts or tank tops as we will be running in the summer.
5.)We will be electing team captains who will assist in team clothing design, fundraisers and team activities such as pasta parties and events. If you are interested in being a team captain please see me.
6.) I thought it would be fun to run as a team a few times before the school year is over. We will be meeting on Tuesday and Thursday of the last two weeks of school from 3:30-4:30 for each of you to get a feel for the sport and to write out an individual running plan for the summer.

First Practice Follow Up
Our first practice yesterday went great! All who attended successfully ran 3 miles in spite of the heat. For our first timed mile EVERYONE was able to run it in under 12 minutes and a few did it in even half that time. It looks like we are going to have an awesome Cross Country Team.
REMINDERS:
Tomorrow, Thursday, we will be running again from 3:30-4:30. Be sure to wear sunscreen and bring a water bottle.
Announcements:
We will be having a parent meeting on Wednesday, May 20th from 3:15-4:00 to pass out summer calendars, discuss costs and answer any questions.
